Several Democratic and Libertarian candidates attended part of the Indiana Democratic Party’s 2022 Town Hall Series on Tuesday at the Fishers branch of the Hamilton East Public Library, 5 Municipal Drive. With over 150 people in attendance, it was a room packed with local citizens who wanted to hear and speak with candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Indiana Secretary of State, and the state legislature.
Indiana Democratic and Libertarian candidates are working together to hold a series of town halls across the state.
The events, organized by the state Democratic Party, invite Hoosiers to ask questions of the candidates ahead of this fall’s elections.
Imagine if you could only choose to eat at McDonald’s or Burger King. You didn’t know about Wendy’s, Taco Bell or even KFC. McDonald’s and Burger King oversaw issuing permits for fast food restaurants. They decided what criteria must be met to receive a permit and they made certain that they met the criteria and no one else could afford to meet the criteria. So, as far as you were concerned, your only options were McDonald’s, Burger King or don’t eat out. Sounds kind of ridiculous, doesn’t it?
Per Indiana law, a political party must get a minimum of 10 percent in the Secretary of State’s race to participate in the general primaries. We must get at least 2 percent to maintain ballot access — which we have done every year since 1994. So, voting Libertarian for Secretary of State is a vote to continue giving Hoosier voters more choices. This year our Secretary of State candidate if Jeff Maurer. He’s running to ensure our elections are safe and secure. He wants you to get a receipt with your vote so you can verify your vote counted the way you intended.
